New bus shelters to be installed by Newbiggin Parish Council have been branded ‘more suited to Majorca or Marbella’ than the North East coast

Locals question the ‘winds of change’ as new bus shelters installed
‘THERE'S NO SHELTER FOR ALAN THOMPSON ON THIS MATTER’ – Liz Simpson
New bus shelters to be installed by Newbiggin Parish Council have been branded ‘more suited to Majorca or Marbella’ than the North East coast after local people complained that the shelters don’t offer any cover from harsh North Sea winds.
The shelters have open sides and only provide roof cover which leave waiting passengers open to gusting winds and local people have said they want to see ‘protective shelters’ returned.
The shelters were replaced by the Parish Council and with the support of local Liberal Democrat councillor who is also Cabinet member for Transport Alan Thompson who has informed people that the old shelters were illegal’.
Labour County Council Candidate for Newbiggin East Ward, Liz Simpson said
‘I cannot understand why Alan Thompson chose to direct the Parish Council to erect these ornaments. Shelters should offer at least some protection from the elements these offer nothing at all. They would look fine in Marbella or Madrid on a fine day but here in Newbiggin shelters of substance are required and local residents demand for proper replacements should be made a priority’.
