The independent think tank, the Resolution Foundation has blown the Coalition Governments optimism that we are in recovery out of the water. They say that we are still 850,000 jobs short of restoring employment levels to pre-recession levels of 60.8% of the workforce in employment.
The number of people in employment has risen 160,000 since 2008 but the Country’s adult workforce population has grown by 1.7M, keeping us well into recession.
The Coalition Government through its Office of Budget Responsibility is predicting a population growth of 340,000 each year for the next five years making quality employment the biggest needs issue for families in Britain.

Northumberland Labour Group Spokesperson, Councillor Gordon Webb of Isabella Ward said:” Northumberland fares badly through the new classifications with 26% of the population income deprived and 23% employment deprived primarily people from the South East of the County. This has grown steadily since 2008 a lot of it through the Council’s Liberal administration removing 1500 jobs since Local Government Review.”
